I love everything about food: from making, to eating, to talking about it. Penn Appétit lets me take that love beyond my own kitchen. As a designer, I weave together stories and recipes from our writers with content from our photographers. I also create illustrations that enhance the print design.
Student-run food and drink magazine at the University of Pennsylvania. We publish a print issue each semester, and maintain a food-centric presence on campus.
For my illustration work at Penn Appétit, I use Photoshop or Illustrator. Below, the simple vector illustrations below play well with the topic of modern plating techniques. I focus on shapes, color, and composition.
When illustrating ingredients, I emphasize texture and depth. In Okonomiyaki, ingredients of very different textures are brought together in a delicious savory pancake. I use a watercolor-like style to create detail.
In collaboration with the Social Impact team, I created a booklet about nutrition geared toward elementary and middle school students.
